Introduction to Aluminium Siding

Aluminum Siding is a commonly used wall cladding among Wood and Vinyl Siding. It is known for its durability and lightweight. The maintenance required for Aluminium Siding is very low. It comes with an exterior coating of vinyl, acrylic, and polyester to provide durability and give it color. Talking about its history, its first structural application was made on the Washington Monument in 1884. An aluminum company ALCOA later began promoting the Aluminium Sidings architectural use around 1920 and it was only in 1937 when that modern siding was invented.

How to Install & Maintain Aluminium Sidings

Installation of Aluminum Siding

  1. Firstly before installing the siding the surface should be evenly smooth and clean.
  2. we install foam board as underlayment with nails.
  3. Add a corner post at every corner using nails.
  4. Installing a footer which is a piece of trim placed at the bottom of the exterior wall.
  5. The F-channel trim strip will be installed.
  6. Then caulk will be applied around the opening like doors and windows.
  7. To prepare the door window trim.
  8. We will install the trim surrounding every window frame.
  9. Adding the starter sheet of siding.
  10. A circular saw is used to trim the siding panels.
  11. Finally, we end with installing the siding’s top panel.

Maintenance of Aluminum Siding

The maintenance of most of the sidings is very low as most of them require cleaning the debris or dirt with a pressure pipe or garden hose. Similar is the case with Aluminium Siding, it is cleaned twice a year with a pressure pipe with laundry detergent and painted as a color seems to start fading.

Advantages of Aluminum Siding

  • It is durable and can last 40 to 50 years.
  • This siding is insect-proof.
  • Is suitable for coastal or humid regions as it is waterproof and no rusting appears in this siding.
  • A good insulator so it is also energy efficient.
  • Requires very low maintenance.
  • Due to its lightweight, it is easier to install.
  • 100% recyclable material thus it is eco-friendly.
  • Very cost-effective, it is 80% cheaper than other sidings as aluminum is a cheap siding material.
  • C comes with a variety of textures, patterns, and colors.
  • It is fire-resistant.

Disadvantages of Aluminum Siding

  • Aluminum is a soft metal thus it is very prone to dents and scratches.
  • It can fade out and appear worn.
  • Most people find it aesthetically unpleasant.
  • It creates popping noise and ping noise when contracting and expanding due to temperature.

Aluminum siding is one of the common sidings used worldwide. It is a value for money product considering its low cost. Everything comes with its own pros and cons and so does aluminum siding, but still, it is the best choice when it comes to its advantages among a few disadvantages.
