Automation in Construction Industry: Importance And Benefits

Introduction

In order to discuss the benefits of automation in the construction industry, we need to understand the concept of Automation. Automation is considered a tool that can increase production without compromising quality. It can streamline the construction process and reduce the time for it.

Benefits of Automation in the Construction Industry

Drones in construction are already providing many benefits for contractors. It is already being used in construction for land surveying, building inspections, monitoring progress on construction sites, etc.. Drones have reduced the amount of work and have increased the quality of work. Drones are now able to access sites that were very difficult to access for surveyors. The inspections can be done while sitting from anywhere. BIM has caused a revolution in the construction industry; it has provided the owners flexibility of viewing their products before even starting. It has reduced mistakes in construction.

Contractors are able to quote for prices with more accuracy and the cost of rework is very less. The process of coordination between different disciplines has become easy. Due to all this, profitability for contracting companies has started to become higher.  Another emergent technology which is 3D is breaking barriers by accomplishing what could not be achieved before. 3D printing is already producing parts of buildings or machines which is reducing cost and increasing the quality of products more than traditional approaches. The different design which was difficult before to be cast is now being prepared with the 3D printer in a very reduced time.

Another technology that has made material management very easy is RFID. RFID technology has made it very easy for tracking materials. It helps to collect material storage information with more accuracy. Through the use of this technology wastage of material in construction has been reduced largely which increases the profitability of projects and contractors are able to invest more in training their staff and investing in technologies.

Conclusion

The above four examples show that the adoption of automation is beneficial for all parties. It is providing increased productivity with reduced times without compromising qualities which is very essential. Contractors are able to enjoy increased profitability whiles clients are able to have quality at a reduced cost.
